NYLO Warwick: Dog-Friendly Hotel near Newport, RI

Working from anywhere

just got a bit
more exciting

Ruby takes in the views of the Pawtuxet River and historic textile mills from the NYLO Warwick Hotel.

Yes, we are ‘working from home’, but do we have to physically work from home? No!

This whole work-from-home mandate has almost been a ticket to freedom.

So, why not find somewhere new and fun to explore where you can work and play where you can bring your buddies along? I know I miss them more than anything when I’m away. Being we can work from anywhere, we set out to find a little mid-week get away to do both. With this being an impromptu plan, we needed to find a hotel that would allow us to bring our two dogs, Bailey and Ruby.

Work From Anywhere Location:

The NYLO Warwick was a perfect match!

A little about the hotel

Aesthetic: Industrial and eclectic. From the high vaulted ceilings and polished concrete floors to the funky art and decor, it’s very clear they were focused on originality. The NYLO hotels are part of the Tapestry Collection at Hilton and are known for weaving an independent, original spirit into every stay. I appreciated the fresh flowers that were placed all around the hotel.

Main Draw: Back terrace offers stunning views of the historic mills & Pawtuxet river. The lobby is cozy with soft chairs & bookshelves to read from with a great collection of books from any genre. Choose to sit out on the terrace throughout the day and enjoy dinner overlooking the river.

Meals: They have a restaurant on-site, called The Loft, that is open for dinner only. It offers a nice variety of food and is quite good. Especially, when you get to eat outside with that view!

Our Room: Our room had a fabulous view with large floor to ceiling windows overlooking the river. It was a treat to wake up, make some coffee from the Keurig machine, open the curtains and watch the sunrise. The bath products were very nice; Crabtree & Evelynn. I can appreciate they didn’t have the little bottles but bottles on the wall with pumps. Great sustainability move there!

Work Situation: Great deal of desk space in your room along with cozy spaces throughout the lobby, back terrace and The Loft.

WiFi: Free for Guests.

Pets: They allow dogs and welcome them with open arms. In fact, a majority of the Hilton hotels allow dogs (check before booking, as pet fees vary from property to property. Outside of the hotel, there’s quite a few grassy areas to take them to and a dog station with bags and a garbage.

Parking: Free Lot across the street with dog areas

Gym: There is a gym on-site, but it was not open due to COVID. We did ask if we could use it and the manager did open it for us so we could use and they were there promptly when we were done to clean the machines well. It is a pretty basic gym that gets the job done. Just what you need when you’re away from home or gym.

Cleanliness during COVID: Hilton has brand new housekeeping protocol called Hilton CleanStay that is focused on delivering an even cleaner stay for their guests. They are super focused on the high-touch areas as well as ensuring the room is inspected before anyone else is allowed to come in. After they’re done, they place a Hilton CleanStay Room Seal with Lysol* protection over the door. Learn more here!

Our routine each day:

6:30AM Wake Up, make coffee, watch sunrise
7:00AM Work-out in-room then shower.
8:00AM Take dogs outside and head into East Greenwich to get breakfast, doughnuts and more coffee.
*Side note: Since there isn’t breakfast at the hotel, we grabbed doughnuts on the first day from East Greenwich.
9:30AM I worked worked at the desk in the room for a few hours while I worked in the lobby.
12NOON Took the dogs for a walk across the street to grab lunch, and decided to work outside on the terrace for a few hours.
3:00PM Grabbed coffee nearby and went for a short walk to stretch the legs
5:00PM Drove into a nearby town to grab dinner that welcomed the dogs outdoors.

Worthwhile nearby towns we explored

East Greenwich (the state’s former capital):

Food Goodies:

Doughnuts: This little town is very sweet, complete with amazing doughnuts, strong coffee and a great breakfast spot. The donuts (Knead Doughnuts) boast to be good doughnuts, made well—I would 100% agree. We ordered and loved the apple fritter, Old Fashioned, Chocolate Chip and Brown Butter Pecan; to. die. for.

Coffee was served with a smile and a sense of community, The Nook Coffee House was a welcoming experience with amazing photos strewn about the wall (taken by a resident barista who made me my coffee)! They are brewing up locally roasted beans from New Harvest Coffee Roasters in Pawtucket, RI, right down the road.

Breakfast was fantastic and worth the wait at Dante’s Kitchen. One of the only places open early that morning with outdoor seating for the pups. The menu boasts a generally American Fare, but with a southern flair. I saw there were Beignet’s on the menu. Since we had the doughnuts from Knead, we didn’t get them—but had we known, for sure! I tried and loved the Fried Green Tomato BLT and added an egg. Scrumptious. My wife got the Breakfast Burrito and took half home with her—very good and very filling!

There’s other great shops for those who like to shop and have time. Also, for other things to do in East Greenwich, check out this site. Had we more time, we definitely would have checked out: Briggs Boesch Farm (hike/walk).

Newport, RI

Mansion perusing, Cliff Walking, brunching. These are a few of my favorite things to do in Newport. It was very rainy and cold the day we were meant to go, so not much to report. BUT, Newport surely has a great deal of things to do. I will be doing a post covering what to do there very soon! In the meantime, check this site out for a guide.
I will tell you about two of our favorite food spots. If you haven’t figured this out yet, I am driven by food. First, coffee. We made our way to the Drift Cafe. The decor is actually what drew us inside—they have swings! Super cute inside and great coffee.

Next we grabbed some food from The Corner Cafe. They are famous for breakfast and fabulous for lunch & dinner, truly. The menu is huge and offers a very wide variety of foods. Our favorites from them? Both are their specialties:

Portuguese Sweetbread Scrambler

Portuguese French toast topped w/scrambled eggs, chorizo, onion, feta and roasted red peppers

Cheeky Emma

2 eggs, pesto, sun-dried tomato, and mozzarella on multigrain

We always make it a point to come here. Their hospitality is stellar and the food is even better. Definitely stop here during your visit!

This area of Rhode Island is definitely worth the trip; there’s so much to do!
