The Addison Choate:
a relaxing work (or play) from anywhere dream

Break away from Boston and head north about an hour to Rockport, you will wonder why you didn’t think of this sooner.

Imagine this: For the third day this week, you’re sitting at your kitchen table working remotely, waiting for a zoom call with your boss. You look around and realize you’ve been in the same space for the past 6+ months and realize there’s no end in sight. Ugh, is this all I have to look forward to each day?

UNLESS, you do something about it.

My wife and I set out to be able to do our jobs effectively, outside of our home outside of Boston. We are also working on the mental state of mind as well, working on being agile and going with the flow. Not every situation is going to be ideal; then again, either is living life in a pandemic. It’s important to remember to take it day by day and find & create pockets of joy for yourself.

We are growing very fond of Rockport, MA and decided this would be our destination. For our accommodations, we stayed at the Addison Choate.

Here’s how we found our pockets of joy during our stay:

Details, details, details. The owners, Courtney and Marshall, thought of everything. From the luxe Beekman 1802 bath goods to the fun turquoise bike cruisers (locks and helmets included), the experience was nothing less than magical.

Coziness: Let’s just start with the fluffy white robes. Need I say more? These are a game-changer for me. You may think I’m a simpleton, but there’s something about a nice fluffy robe when I travel, that makes me feel special.

Funny story, I felt 𝘴𝘰 cozy that when I went to go out to the kitchen around 8pm without my sandals, Alyssa had to remind me I wasn’t at home and that I was also in my robe.

Young Living Essential Oils in every guest room as well.

Young Living Essential Oils in every guest room as well.

Ambiance: Let me paint the picture for you: Vibrant colors, New England inspired decor, cozy nooks with fluffy pillows and lush plants. Upon walking in, our noses were filled with fresh oranges from the essential oil‘s being diffused throughout the air. They feature Young Living essential oil diffusers in the lobby as well as the rooms, so fresh and lovely.

When the weather cools down a bit, they have two beautiful fireplaces in the lobby and living room, both surrounded by comfortable couches, that really notches up the cozy.

Hospitality: Welcoming and caring; recommended many fun things to-do in town and where to take the bikes. Complimentary S. Pellegrino in the room upon arrival? Yes, please! You pre-order your breakfast the night before—I had a warm croissant, hard-boiled egg, blueberries, and.....Cinnamon Toast Crunch (hey, I’m on vacation).

I noticed a popcorn machine tucked into the corner of the lobby and had to know when they bring that baby out. Well, it’s another fantastic way they greet their guests! As if you already didn’t feel welcomed enough, during non-COVID times, they greet you with a fresh, buttery bag of popcorn at check-in. Yum!

Location: Perfect distance into town and to the ocean. The Bed and Breakfast is about a half-mile to Bearskin Neck, where it all goes down. Restaurants, shopping, beautiful ocean views for days. What more could you ask for?

Work, Work, Work, Work

Places to get to work: If you must work, you can at this hotel; the space is very conducive and enjoyable! It has fast, free Wi-Fi, and plenty of plugs when you’re low on juice. Work spaces vary, depending on how much quiet you need and how much fresh air you want. Pick your cozy.

My top choices to get work done, in a cozy way:

  1. Little Pup Nook by the Spiral Stairs: Great place to take calls & snag full indoor sunshine. A precious little space with a huge floor to ceiling window, cute pup, comfy, colorful chair and antique lamp—charm city. Wi-Fi Connection: Great; Wall Plug: Yes.

  2. Bistro seating, for two! Good Vibes Only: This entire room has a chic, clean, updated vibe with a gold and white aesthetic paired with a living plant wall. There’s a cute collection of bistro tables with chic gold and white. Also, there’s two little cubbies with cozy pillows and vintage rotary phones along with a plant. Bright window with lots of natural light. Wi-Fi Connection: Great; Wall Plug: Yes, multiple.

  3. Sprawling Wrap-Around Front Porch: Lots of fresh air and a cool breeze helps pass the hours. Floral Boxes present a upbeat and beautiful environment while you type away. Wi-Fi Connection: Great; Wall Plug: Yes, multiple.
